“It is imperative that the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens foster an open exchange of information, ideas and views which will result in a greater understanding of the community's needs and assist law enforcement in becoming more effective in their efforts.” ~ Sheriff Adrian H. Anderson
Dutchess County is a large suburban and rural county comprising 841 square miles which includes the Hudson River. It is the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office's mission to keep our county free of crime. Although this remains an ideal, it is our office's mission to ensure every resident of Dutchess County is well protected from any and all crimes.
The mission of the law enforcement division of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is to enforce city, town and village ordinances, the State Laws of New York, maintain peace and order in the county; protect property and the personal safety of its citizens and generally assist citizens in varied situations.
Particular attention will be in those areas of the county in which the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency.
We will, at all times, work in close cooperation with other law enforcement agencies as well as community agencies to promote a good understanding of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office's efforts in law enforcement.
In order for the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office to seek and preserve the public's confidence, our deputy sheriffs will at all times recognize their badge of their office as a symbol of public faith and will accept it as a public trust to be held so long as they are true to the ethics of police service. They will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating themselves before God and their chosen profession…law enforcement.
