To report a dead bird, you may call the Dutchess County Department of Health WNV hotline at 845-486-3438 and select option 9.

You also have the option of using our automated response system -
Your Dutchess Direct  Go to Your Dutchess Direct

Please note that only a limited number of birds will be collected for testing. However, we are recording the information on all dead birds found in the county as part of our on going monitoring and surveillance.

When leaving a message or sending an e-mail, please provide the following information:

  1. Name
  2. Address
  3. Phone number where you can be reached, Monday-Friday (between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM)
  4. Date bird was found
  5. Kind of bird found

Please store the dead bird in a plastic bag and on ice in a closed container if it is fresh. If the dead bird is not picked up within 24 hours (weekend and holidays excluded) after your report, use a shovel and wear gloves to double-bag the bird for disposal. Please place dead bird in an outside trash can for pick-up by your garbage collector.
