The Dutchess County Division of Weights and Measures is responsible for assuring measurement accuracy in commerce throughout its region in accordance with Article 16 of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law. The Weights and Measures Division serves Dutchess County residents by conducting the following activities to promote equity in all commercial transactions involving quality, weight, measure or count:
In instances when illegal practices are found, civil proceedings are enacted.
The purpose of all of our actions is to promote an atmosphere of trust among consumers, the business community, and County Government by promoting a fair and equitable market place.

Services: The Division of Weights and Measures provides residents with the following services: Gasoline Quality Program: Test all gasoline for octane ratings, chemical makeup and specifications under the Clean Air Act requirements. Inspection of Gas Pumps and Scales: Ensure that all gas pumps, fuel oil trucks and supermarket scales are delivering the correct amounts at retail transactions. Precious Metal License: All establishments engaging in the purchase of gold, silver, etc., are licensed through our Office.
