In celebration of Older American’s Month, County Executive William R. Steinhaus and the Dutchess County Office for the Aging awarded three Dutchess County residents “Senior Citizen of the Year” honors at the annual “Celebration of Aging” held on Monday, May 17, 2010 in Wappingers Falls.
The Office for the Aging hosts the “Celebration of Aging” each year in order to recognize the outstanding contributions senior citizens make to Dutchess County. Sally Edwards Taylor of Poughkeepsie was named the Senior Citizen of the Year and Brud and Audrey Dickson of Verbank were the Senior Citizen Couple of the Year. In addition, Dorothy Fugardi of Wappingers Falls received a Senior Citizen Achievement Award.
County Executive Steinhaus also honored three Dutchess County couples for 70 or more years of marriage. Nineteen residents between the ages of 100 and 105 were also recognized at the event.
The Celebration of Aging event, held at the Villa Borghese in Wappinger, was made possible by support from local sponsors including CDPHP, the Fountains at Millbrook, Regency at Fishkill – a Toll Brothers Community, Premier Home Health Care Services, Inc, Arbor Ridge at Brookmeade and the Terraces at Brookmeade.
